About the Project
Tupon, an elderly woman living at the foot of Mount Kidul, tirelessly raises Sekar Palupi and encourages her to keep pursuing her education. Though illiterate, Tupon always takes Sekar to observe the wonders of the universe, often pointing out Lintang Lantip—the “bright star,” the planet Mars. She would always tell Sekar that one day, through knowledge, she could reach it. In time, Sekar achieves her dream and earns a master’s degree in astronomy from Oxford University, England.
